Black Hat Chefs win gold medal

Chef Ryan Conklin and Tyran Lawson competed in a national culinary competition. They beat 4 other hospitals (selected from hospitals all over the US) in a nail biting competition. The outcome was we won the gold and now have bragging rights as the best hospital food in the country.

Gold Medal Awarded

Black Hat Chefs Win American Culinary Federation Gold Medal. This was a state wide hospital competition . We competed in the North Carolina Prevention Partners culinary competition at Johnson and Wales university. We took on Sodexo, Aramark, Morrisons and a few other self-op hospitals. We were the only ones to get gold, beating all competitors. Celebrity Chef Alton Brown from the Food Network was on hand to award the medals.
Black Hats Win Silver

The Black Hat Chefs Win Silver Medal. We traveled out to Phoenix and took on some pretty talented teams. This nationwide competition was held by the Association for Healthcare Foodservices. Chef Ryan Conklin developed this recipe as an off shoot to our very popular cafe menu item. We sell this Korean favorite in our cafes. This upscale version won silver!
Food Service Director of the Month

Chef Jim McGrody was named Food Service Director of the Month in May 2010. This prestigious award is given by Food Service Director Magazine. Candidates are chosen form all industry business sectors such as health care, B&I, Colleges and Universities and k-12 Schools. Black Hat Chefs Go Back to High School!

Black Hat Chefs went to East Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill NC. Our goal was to teach high school students about whole grains. We served our signature wheatberry chili to them. They loved it.
